The words Businessflo uses

Businessflo uses a handful of words in a precise way. This page is one or two sentences per term, so you can settle it and move on. Where a term has a screen behind it, the term links to that screen.

Use the search box if you know the word. Read it through once if you are new.

A

Access - who may open a file or folder in Files: Public, Private or Restricted to the people and roles listed on it. See Signing in, messages and files.

Action - one line saying what a scan does on a screen: fill a field, add a grid line, open a document, open a report. Actions live in the Actions sub-grid of a process line on Barcode Assignment. One action code, PRINTCELL, is not about scanning: it puts a Print link on a grid column.

Application Identifier - in a GS1 code, the two to four digits that announce what the next characters are. 01 is the product, 10 the lot, 17 the expiry date.

Assignment - the document that switches barcode on for the screens of one company. One document per legal entity, one line per screen. See Barcode Assignment.

Auto load - a setting on a saved view. On, the list loads the moment it opens; off, it waits for Load. See Lists, boards and reports.

B

Barcode Register - the list of codes Businessflo has generated, linked or printed for records. A scan is looked up here before anywhere else. See Barcode Register.

Board - a dashboard: a page of tiles. Nothing on it runs until Load, and its tiles then fill card by card. See Lists, boards and reports.

Bom Lines - the components a subcontracting Purchase Order line sends to the vendor, with their quantities. Pressed on the line, they fill from the item's approved subcontracting Formula, and they travel with the line onto the receipt, where Actual Quantity says what was really used. See Send components to a subcontractor.

C

Check digit - a last digit calculated from the others, so a misread code is caught. A code that fails the check named on its nomenclature rule is refused.

Command barcode - a code that is an instruction instead of data. It starts with BF-CMD. and works on any screen that is listening for scans, with no action line needed.

CodeWhat it does
BF-CMD.SAVE, BF-CMD.VALIDATE, BF-CMD.CANCEL, BF-CMD.NEW, BF-CMD.DELETEPresses that toolbar button
BF-CMD.MENUGoes back to the document list
BF-CMD.NEXT, BF-CMD.PREVRecognised as commands, but the screen does not move between records on them today
BF-CMD.PRINTOpens the screen's default report
BF-CMD. followed by a process codeStarts a new document on that screen

Company view - a view saved for everyone in this company. Where it has the same name as a configuration view, it replaces that view for this company only. Saved by a consultant, or by a user whose role holds the Company Stored Views and Layouts right.

Configuration view - a view saved for every client, also called the standard. Only a consultant can save one, and only on the development system.

Cost Revaluation - the document that adds the cost of the consumed components to the finished item when a subcontracted item is received. It is made on the journal named in Cost Revaluation Journal on Account Payable Setting.

D

Designer - the one designer for lists, boards and reports. It is called the Custom Designer on a list, the Dashboard Designer on a board and the Report Designer on a report, but it is the same frame, opened from what it designs. See Lists, boards and reports.

E

Entity type - the kind of thing a code stands for: ITEM, LOT, LOCATION, EMPLOYEE, PACKAGE, SERIAL, DOCUMENT. It is the word that joins the three setup screens: a nomenclature rule produces it, a resolver is chosen by it, and an action is matched on it.

N

Nomenclature - the rule book for reading a scanned code. It says which characters mean what, and what kind of thing the code stands for. It does not find the record and it does not decide what happens. See Barcode Nomenclature.

O

Override - a client's own design of a report, saved on Client Report Design. It replaces the standard design for this company only.

P

Personal board - your own board of tiles and menu links, seen only by you. Things are put on it with Add to dashboard. It took the place of the old Workspace.

Process line - one line of the grid on Barcode Assignment. It names a screen by its process code and carries that screen's switches.

Q

Quick access - the folders you added to the top of Files yourself. It is kept in this browser only.

R

Report view - a named version of a report that carries its own criteria. Picking it on the report sets those criteria and loads it; the report keeps printing as it does.

Resolver - one line on Barcode Identity saying where a kind of thing is looked up: the table, and the column the scanned key must equal. Resolvers are asked only when the issued register has no answer.

Rule - one line of a nomenclature. In a gs1 nomenclature a rule describes one Application Identifier. In a pattern nomenclature a rule is a shape the whole code is tested against, and the first rule that matches wins.

S

Scheduler - the screen that keeps every schedule emailing a list or a report, with when it runs next, when it last ran and how that run went. A list is sent on its view.

Standard design - the design of a report that every client prints, unless a client has its own override. Saved on the Report screen, on the development system only.

Subcontracting Warehouse - on a subcontracting Purchase Order line, the warehouse that holds the components lying with the vendor. They are transferred into it, and the receipt takes them out of it.

Support reference - the short code in small print under a server error. It is what support needs to find what went wrong.

Symbology - the printed form of a code: the kind of bars or squares. Businessflo draws code128, code39, ean13, upca and qr. The same characters can be printed in different symbologies. The scanner reads them all back as the same string.

T

Template segment - one piece of a generated code. A template is a list of segments built in order and joined: a fixed text, the value of a field, a GS1 element, a check digit. Segments live in the Template sub-grid of a process line on Barcode Assignment.

Tile - one figure, table or chart on a board. Each tile loads on its own, and a tile that fails shows its error on its own card.

V

View - a saved shape of a list, a help list or a report: its columns, groups and totals, the tab it opens on and whether it loads at once. Saved for Only me, the Company or the Configuration. See Lists, boards and reports.

W

Warehouse for Vendor - a tick on Warehouse for a warehouse that holds stock lying with a vendor. Every movement into or out of it needs the vendor as Custodian.

Wedge - a scanner that behaves like a keyboard. It types the characters of the code very fast and then presses Enter. Most handheld scanners work this way out of the box. Businessflo tells a wedge from a person by the speed of the keys, which is what Inter-key on the process line sets.

Workspace - the old page of shortcuts on Home. It has gone; what it held is now a personal board on the dashboard.
