Item Posting
An item posting group: is the item a stock item, and may its stock go below zero.
What it is for
Every item in a company names an item posting group. The general ledger posting profile finds the inventory accounts by it, so items that post to the same accounts share a group. Stock Item and Physical Negative Inventory are read by the inventory screens when stock moves; material requirement planning skips the stock check for items allowed to go negative.
Physical Negative Inventory cannot be ticked without Stock Item. Financial Negative Inventory is recorded; nothing reads it today.
Every field in plain words
| Field | What it means | What to put |
|---|---|---|
| Item Posting | The short code. | Cannot be changed once saved. Required |
| Name | The name shown in lookups and on documents. | A clear name. Required |
| Stock Item | The item is kept in stock. | Tick for stock items |
| Physical Negative Inventory | Stock may go below zero. | Tick to allow; needs Stock Item |
| Financial Negative Inventory | Recorded only; nothing reads it today. | Leave as is |
How to configure it
There is nothing to configure beyond the fields above. Which fields are shown, required or hidden can be changed per company by the consultant in the screen configuration.
Scenarios
- A company sells services and stock items. Make one group with Stock Item ticked for goods and one without for services.
What it is connected to
- Release Item In Legal Entity - Item Posting on the item
- Posting Profile - the posting profile finds accounts by item posting
- Inventory - reads Stock Item and negative stock
If something looks wrong
- "You cannot Allow Physical Negetive Inventory if Stock Item is not Allowed" Tick Stock Item, or untick Physical Negative Inventory.
- "... already exists" on Save. Another group already uses this code.
