Instrument Number Setup
Instrument Number Setup records a cheque book: the bank account, the first and last cheque number. Saving lists every leaf. When the setting Bind Instrument Number is on, a payment's cheque number is picked from the unused leaves of the account's books.
What it is for
It stops the same cheque number being used twice: the cheque number lookup on a payment lists only leaves that are not void and not on an unreversed payment of that account.

Basic Data grid
Series, Void, Void Date, Void Reason. One line per leaf.
How to configure it
Tick Bind Instrument Number in Account Payable Setting.
Scenarios
- A new book of 50 cheques. Series From 100001, Series To 100050, the bank account. Save.
What it is connected to
- Payment: Instrument No on Payment Through.
If something looks wrong
- A spoiled cheque cannot be marked void. Ticking Void needs a Void Date, and the Void Date column cannot be edited, so the save is refused with "Line ID: ... - Please insert Void Date". Today the only way around is to leave the leaf unvoided.
- The cheque number lookup on a new payment offers nothing. The lookup is switched to the cheque book only when an existing payment is edited. Type the number on a new payment, or save it as Park and edit it.
