Warehouse Zone (3PL)
A zone is a part of a 3PL warehouse: a chamber, a floor or an area kept for one customer. Every line of a 3PL receipt, release or adjustment says which zone the goods are in.
What it is for
Zones let the receipt say more than "in the port warehouse": "in chamber 2 of the port warehouse". Warehouse Zone is required on every receipt and release line.
The Warehouse Zone lookup on a document line offers every zone, whatever warehouse is on the line. Nothing checks that the zone belongs to the line's warehouse, or that a customer's zone is used only for that customer. Name zones so the warehouse is obvious, such as KHI-CH2.
Every field in plain words
| Field | What it means | What to put |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse Zone | The code | A short code such as KHI-CH2. Required |
| Name | The name people see | Such as Port warehouse chamber 2. Required. Kept per language |
| Warehouse Type | A free description of the kind of storage | Such as Chilled, Ambient, Open yard. Recorded only |
| Warehouse | The 3PL warehouse the zone is in | Pick it. Recorded only: see the note above |
| Customer | The customer the zone is kept for, if any | Pick a customer, or leave empty. Recorded only |
How to configure it
Make one zone per physical area people need to name when they receive or release goods. A warehouse with no areas still needs one zone, because the document lines require one.
Scenarios
- A cold store with four chambers. Four zones,
CH1toCH4, each with Warehouse Type Chilled and the cold store as Warehouse. - A customer rents a caged area. One zone with that customer in Customer. Tell the receiving staff to pick it for that customer's goods: the screen will not do it for them.
What it is connected to
- Warehouse (3PL) - the building the zone is in.
- Warehouse Receipt, Warehouse Release, Adjustment - each line names a zone.
If something looks wrong
- The zone lookup shows zones of other warehouses. Expected: the lookup lists every zone. Pick by the code.
- There is no Block tick on this screen. The layout has a place for it, but the screen has no Block field configured, so it is never shown.
