Client

Client is the record above every company. One installation serves one client; the client holds the languages the application offers and a handful of switches that apply to all its companies at once.

Where
Organizational Structure › Enterprise Structure (OSCL)
Who uses it
The implementation consultant or the system administrator
When
Once, when the installation is first prepared
Needs first
Nothing. This is the first record of all.

What it is for

Every company (Company) belongs to a client. The client is where the application learns which languages it speaks, and where a few rules that are not per company are kept.

The rule people get wrong: the switches on the Setup tab are read for the whole installation, not for one company. Allow Item Duplication is checked against any client row that has it ticked.

Every field in plain words

General

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put
ClientThe code of the client. Every company, and several setup screens such as Business Area Dimension, point back to it.Required. Typed on New; locked afterwards.
Client NameThe client’s name.Free text.

Clients

The Clients tab lists the languages. When you save a master with a translatable name (a unit, a business unit, a company…), the system keeps one translation of that name per language listed here, starting from the name you typed.

ColumnWhat it meansWhat to put
ClientThe client the language row belongs to; filled from the header.Required.
LanguageA language the application offers to this client. Names and translations of every master are kept per language listed here.Optional.
DefaultThe language used when nothing else decides. Tick exactly one.Optional.

Setup

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put
Allow Item DuplicationLets two items carry the same name.Leave clear to keep item names unique: Item then refuses a second item with a name already used, with “Item Name is already exists”. Tick it if the business really has different items with the same name.
Attendance Base OnHow attendance is matched, for installations that also run the HR product.Pick from the list. It is read by the attendance lists, not by any ERP screen.
Attendance MatchingHow attendance punches are matched, for installations that also run the HR product.Pick from the list. It is read by the attendance lists, not by any ERP screen.

Payroll

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put
Required Pay ChannelA payroll switch for installations that also run the HR product.Leave clear in an ERP-only installation.
Gross & Basic base on Pay ChannelA payroll switch shown on the screen.Nothing in the system reads it today: ticking it changes nothing.

How to configure it

  • List every language the client works in on the Clients tab and tick one as Default. Signing in uses the default language when the user does not choose one.
  • Decide Allow Item Duplication before items are loaded. Turning it on later does not undo anything; turning it off later only stops new duplicates.
  • The Payroll tab and the attendance fields only matter when the HR product runs on the same installation.

Scenarios

  • A trading company sells the same part from two makers under one name. Tick Allow Item Duplication on Client, so Item accepts the second item with the same name.
  • The business works in English and Arabic. Add both languages on the Clients tab, English as Default. Each master then keeps a name per language.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • Item refuses a new item with “Item Name is already exists”. Allow Item Duplication is off on Client. Tick it, or give the item a different name.
  • A master shows no name in the second language. The language was added on the Clients tab after the master was saved. Open the master and save it again, then type the translation.
