Department
A department is a unit of the organisation chart, such as Accounts or Stores, with the person responsible for it.
What it is for
Departments are picked on other screens, listed below, and by the HR product. The list other screens pick from leaves out blocked departments.
Every field in plain words
General
| Field | What it means | What to put |
|---|---|---|
| Department | The code that identifies the department. You type it on New, before Create. | Required. A short code; it cannot be changed once the record exists. |
| Name | The name of the department, shown next to the code wherever it is picked. | Required. |
| Responsible | The person responsible for the department, from Responsible. | Optional. Pick from the Responsible list. |
| Block | Stops the department from being used. | Tick to block. A blocked record drops out of the pick lists other screens use. |
How to configure it
The screen allows import, so a long list can be loaded from a file instead of typed. Which fields are required, greyed, hidden or pre-filled for a company is set on Organizational Structure Setting, in its Default Parameters grid, and one user can differ through User Parameter Value.
What it is connected to
- Responsible - supplies the Responsible field.
- Functional Area Dimension - places departments under functional areas.
- Picked on these company setup screens: Functional Area Dimension.
- Picked on Lead, Project, Service Name in CRM and expenses.
- Picked on Posting Profile in General ledger.
- Set up a new company - where this screen fits in the setup order.
If something looks wrong
- Save refuses because the code already exists. Codes are unique. Open the existing record from the list instead, or pick another code.
