Cost Key

A cost key is a short code that classifies cost objects, for example by how their cost is driven.

What it is for

The key has only a code and a name.

The rule people get wrong: nothing picks from this list today. The Cost Key field on Cost Object offers a fixed list shipped with the product, not the keys typed here. Keep this screen empty unless a later version starts reading it.

Every field in plain words

General

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put
Cost KeyThe code that identifies the cost key. You type it on New, before Create.Required. A short code; it cannot be changed once the record exists.
NameThe name of the cost key, shown next to the code wherever it is picked.Required.

How to configure it

Which fields are required, greyed, hidden or pre-filled for a company is set on Organizational Structure Setting, in its Default Parameters grid, and one user can differ through User Parameter Value.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • Save refuses because the code already exists. Codes are unique. Open the existing record from the list instead, or pick another code.
