Stock Status

A stock status says whether stock can be used. Stock that is free to issue is open; stock waiting for a quality decision is in quality; stock that failed is rejected. Every stock line carries a status.

What it is for

The system itself sets the status. A receipt of an item that needs quality inspection puts the stock in quality status (qc); every other line becomes open (open), unless it was already rejected (reject). Only open stock is offered for issue and reservation.

The one rule people get wrong: adding a new status here does not teach the documents a new rule. Receipts, issues and quality inspection work only with open, quality and rejected.

How to configure it

Leave the delivered statuses as they are. Show the Stock Status column on stock lines with Required Stock Status on Inventory Control Setting.

Scenarios

  • Raw material that must pass a test before use. Do nothing here. Set the item to need quality; its receipts go to quality status by themselves and Quality Inspection Order releases them.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • Stock is on hand but cannot be issued. It is in quality or rejected status. Finish its inspection order.
