Warehouse
A warehouse is one store inside a site. Stock lines name the warehouse the goods are in. A warehouse can also hold goods that belong to someone else: stock sent to a subcontractor, or stock kept for a customer.
What it is for
Warehouses are what stock is counted in. Every receipt, issue and transfer line names one when the item's storage setup asks for a warehouse.
The one rule people get wrong: a warehouse can be for a vendor or for a customer, never both. Every stock line into or out of such a warehouse must then say whose goods they are (Custodian Indicator and Custodian), or it is refused.
Every field in plain words
Header

|---|---|---|
| Warehouse | The code of the warehouse | W01. Must be unique |

Basic Data
| Field | What it means | What to put |
|---|---|---|
| Site | The site the warehouse is in | Required |
| Calendar | A working calendar | Recorded only. No inventory document reads it |
| Warehouse Type | The kind of store | Required. Picked from the list. When the type is S, the three fields Warehouse Main, Warehouse Quarantine and Warehouse InTransit open for entry; for any other type they are locked |
| Required in MRP | Material requirement planning counts the stock of this warehouse | Tick for stores whose stock planning may use |
| Use in Reservation | Stock in this warehouse can be reserved | Tick, together with Use in Reservation on the site |
| Refiling | Recorded on the warehouse | Nothing reads it today |
| Manufacturer Approved Validation | Goods coming in must come from an approved manufacturer of the item | Tick for regulated stores. A receipt line that names a manufacturer not approved for the item on or before the posting date is refused. A line with no manufacturer is not checked |
| Warehouse Main | The main store linked to this one | Recorded only |
| Warehouse Quarantine | The quarantine store linked to this one | Recorded only |
| Warehouse InTransit | The in-transit store goods sit in between a transfer shipment and its receipt | Only in-transit warehouses are offered. A Transfer Order can ship only from a warehouse of type S that names one |
| Warehouse for Vendor | The goods here belong to, or sit with, a vendor | Tick for a subcontractor's store |
| Vendor | Recorded on the warehouse | Cleared on save when Warehouse for Vendor is ticked: the vendor is named on each stock line instead |
| Warehouse for Customer | The goods here are held for a customer | Tick for consignment stock at a customer |
| Customer | Recorded on the warehouse | Cleared on save when Warehouse for Customer is ticked |

How to configure it
- One warehouse per store that is counted separately.
- For subcontracting, make one warehouse with Warehouse for Vendor ticked. Components sent to the subcontractor are transferred there, and the subcontracting receipt consumes them from there.
- For consignment at a customer, tick Warehouse for Customer.
Scenarios
- A pharmaceutical company that may only receive from approved manufacturers. Tick Manufacturer Approved Validation on the raw material store and keep the approved manufacturers on the item.
- A garment maker that sends fabric to a stitching unit. A warehouse for vendor holds the fabric at the unit. Each line names the vendor as custodian.
What it is connected to
- Site - the warehouse's parent.
- Item Transfer - moves stock between warehouses, including to a vendor's warehouse.
- Transfer Order - ships through the source warehouse's in-transit warehouse.
- Item Receipt for Purchase Order - checks the approved manufacturer and consumes subcontracting components.
- Material Requirement Planning - planning reads Required in MRP; the Item holds its approved manufacturers.
If something looks wrong
- "You cannot allow both Warehouse for Vendor and Customer" - both boxes are ticked. Keep one.
- "Line ID - 1 Custodian Indicator cannot be Empty" on a stock document - the warehouse is for a vendor or a customer and the line does not say Vendor or Customer.
- "Line ID - 1 Custodian cannot be Empty" - the line names no vendor or customer as custodian.
- "... Manufacturer ... is not an approved manufacturer of Purchase No ... for warehouse ..." - the receiving warehouse has Manufacturer Approved Validation and the manufacturer on the line is not approved for the item by the posting date.
- Warehouse Main, Quarantine and InTransit are greyed. The Warehouse Type is not
S.
