What it is for

The price model decides what the profile holds. The codes shown in the Price Model list are read by the system like this:

  • SPL sales price lines and PPL purchase price lines carry a Price above zero. SPL lines may also carry a Retail Price; on every other model the retail price is cleared on save.
  • SDL sales discount lines, PDL purchase discount lines and STD carry a Percentage above zero and need the header Discount Category, which is copied onto each line.
  • COS carries a Price above zero for one item; Site is not required.
  • Every model except COS and RPL needs a Currency on each line.
  • For SDL, SPL, PDL and PPL each line needs an Item Relation (empty for ALL-ITM), a Unit (except for ALL-ITM and IPG) and a Site.

The Price Model and Pricing Period are fixed once the profile is created. A second profile with the same period, price model and discount category is refused, and so is one whose dates overlap another profile of the same price model.

How a sales order finds its price (SPL): it looks for lines of this company that are ready to process and not blocked, dated around the order date, for the order site and unit, in the order currency when it has one, for the item (and its variant, or no variant), for the customer or the customer's price group, for the order warehouse or no warehouse, with From Quantity 0 or at most the ordered quantity, and for the order season code. It takes the first by: a variant line before a general one, a customer line before a price group line, the highest From Quantity, a warehouse line before a general one. If nothing is found in the order unit, it looks in the inventory unit and multiplies by the unit factor.

How a sales discount is found (SDL): one line per discount category, for all items, the item, or the item's Item Pricing Group; for all partners, the customer or the customer's discount price group; preferring a customer line, then the highest From Quantity, then a warehouse line.

On Product Information Setting, Quantity based Price shows Quantity and Price for Quantity and stops Price being typed. A season column appears when the sales setting requires a season code.

Scenarios

  • A wholesaler sells at one list price and gives key accounts a better one. One SPL profile: a CPG line for the general price group and CUT lines for key customers; the customer line wins.
  • A beverage company gives 2 percent off from 100 cases. An SDL profile with a line From Quantity 100, Percentage 2.
  • A purchase team keeps agreed vendor prices. A PPL profile with VND lines per vendor.
