A service object group sorts the things the business services ("passenger cars", "generators", "ISO tanks") and holds the warranty and claim rules that objects created from a sales delivery start with.
- Where
- Service Management › Service Object › Service Object Group
- Who uses it
- The implementation consultant
- When
- At setup, before the first service object
- Needs first
- Nothing
What it is for
The group sets the defaults a new service object can inherit and the rules for objects created by a sales delivery:
- Create Service Object On Sales Delivey: when an item whose Object Group is this group is delivered to a customer, the delivery creates one service object for each delivery line, for that customer, with this group, the warranty dates counted from the delivery date, and the return, replacement, response time and claim limits copied from here.
- Parts Warranty and Labour Warranty, with Warranty % and Warranty Month in Days: copied onto those service objects. The warranty end date is the delivery date plus the days.
- Standard Response Time (Hours), Return Allowed, Replacement Allowed, Replacement Allowed In Days, Claim Count Max, Claim Amount Max %: copied onto those service objects.
No service document reads the warranty or claim fields when it prices or bills: a part under warranty is charged like any other unless you set its price or discount yourself.

- To have a sale create the service object by itself, tick Create Service Object On Sales Delivey here and set this group as the Object Group of the item in the item master.
Scenarios
- A generator dealer gives 12 months parts and 6 months labour warranty. Group "Generators" with Parts Warranty 365 days and Labour Warranty 180 days, and Create Service Object On Sales Delivey ticked. Each delivery of a generator creates its service object with the warranty dates set.
What it is connected to
If something looks wrong
- A delivery did not create a service object. The item has no Object Group, or its group does not have Create Service Object On Sales Delivey ticked.
