How do I set up service management for a company?

Fill the company setting first, then the lists the service order picks from, then the operations. Without the setting journals, a confirmation cannot be saved.

Needs first
Journals, categories, customers and warehouses from the other areas

Before you start

  • Journals for the parts issue and the invoices, on Transaction Journal.
  • Categories with a service credit account (revenue) and a service debit account (expense), on Category in Company Setup.
  • Customers with a payment term and a payment method, on Customer In Legal Entity.
  • Sites and warehouses, and items with a default warehouse per site: Site, Warehouse.

Steps

  1. Open Service Management Setting. Tick the columns the workshop fills (symptom, fault, damage, area, bay, discount, tax zone), choose Service Object Required On Header, pick Category Item, Journal For Issuance and Invoice Journal. Save.
  2. Add the job types on Service Order Type, with sub-types where needed.
  3. Add the workshops on Service Center and their bays on Service Area.
  4. Add the object groups on Service Object Group, with the warranty rules.
  5. Add the diagnosis lists: Symptom, Fault, Damage and their areas.
  6. Add the operations on Operation with their Resource Mapping lines and sale prices.
  7. Register the first service objects on Service Object.

Check it worked

  • A new Service Order offers your types, objects and operations, and picking an operation fills its requirement lines.

If something looks wrong

  • A confirmation is refused with "Please Define Issuance Journal in Setting". Step 1 was skipped for this company.
  • A service order is refused with "… Account Cannot be Empty". A category has no service credit account.
