How do I move stock between warehouses or sites?

For a move that happens at once, save an Item Transfer: stock leaves and arrives in one Save. When goods travel, make a Transfer Order, pick it, ship it into the in-transit warehouse, and receive it at the other end.

Needs first
A transfer journal and movements; for transfer orders, a source warehouse with an in-transit warehouse

Before you start

  • The transfer-out movement names its reverse movement: see Movement.
  • For transfer orders, the source Warehouse is of type S and names a Warehouse InTransit.

Steps

  1. One step: open Item Transfer. Fill dates, journal, From and To site and warehouse, add the items (or copy a transfer request), and Save.
  2. Travelling: open Transfer Order. Fill From, To and the items, and Save. If the journal ships automatically, the shipment is posted now; go to step 5.
  3. Pick it on Picking List and Picking List Registration.
  4. Ship it on Transfer Shipment, from the picking list.
  5. Receive it on Transfer Receipt, from the shipment.

Check it worked

  • As On Inventory shows the stock at the destination; while on the road it shows in the in-transit warehouse.
  • Transfer Order Summary shows what is still pending.

What posts

Item Transfer, Transfer Shipment, Transfer ReceiptSaveInventory at the destination (or in transit), with its site's financial dimensionInventory at the source, with its site's financial dimension

The accounts come from the posting profile by movement and item posting group; between two sites the voucher shows the move between the sites' dimensions. Undoing is Reverse: the receipt before the shipment.

If something looks wrong

  • "Header Storage Structure From and To cannot be same" - From and To are the same place.
  • "Transfer Shipment : ... cannot be Reverse. Following Transfer Receipt has been raised against it: ..." - reverse the receipt first.
