How do I create a new item?
Use Item In Legal Entity: type a new item code and fill the company settings; one Save creates the shared item and its release in your company.
Before you start
- Item Group and units of measure.
- Item Posting, Item Valuation, Storage Structure and Tracking Structure.
- Sites and warehouses (see Site and Warehouse).
- The company's Product Information Setting, if it requires a default warehouse or a name rule.
Steps
- Open Item In Legal Entity (Product Information › Item) and press New.
- Type the Item No, Name, Item Category, Item Group and Inventory Unit. Picking the inventory unit adds a unit line with factor 1.
- Key settings: pick Item Posting, Item Valuation, Storage Structures and Tracking Structure. These lock once the item is used, so choose carefully.
- Pick the Replenishment. For a bought item fill Purchase Unit; for a made item BOM Unit, Type and Manufacturing Category (then Manufacturing Policy) and the Manufacturing Unit.
- Tick Can be sale for a sellable item and fill Sales Unit.
- On Units, add the other units with their factor to the inventory unit, and tick Purchase and Sales where they may be used.
- On Inventory, add a site and warehouse line and tick Default.
- Save. Save refuses what is missing and says which field.
Check it worked
- The item appears on the Item In Legal Entity list and in the item lookups of purchase, sales and inventory documents of your company.
- For another company, open Release Item In Legal Entity there and pick the same item.
If something looks wrong
- "Define Movement Unit in Unit Lines" Add the unit lines.
- "Units - atleast one Sales check mark is mandatory" Tick Sales on a unit line, or untick Can be sale.
- "Default Site/ Warehouse is mandatory" Add an Inventory line marked Default.
- "Item Name ... already exists in this Legal Entity" Change the name, or ask for the name rule to change.
