How do I set up an item that comes in sizes and colours?

Make the variant dimensions and a variant group, create the item with Item Variant ticked and Field-Based, then build the variant lines on the item in your company.

Before you start

Steps

  1. On Variant, make each dimension (for example Size and Colour) with its values on the lines.
  2. On Variant Group, list the dimensions the item varies by.
  3. On the item, tick Item Variant, set Item Variant BaseOn to Field-Based and pick the Item Variant Group. With Text-Base you type the variants instead.
  4. On Release Item In Legal Entity, open the Variant part and define the variants. Each variant gets a code made from the item code and a running number.
  5. Save. A variant item with no variant lines is refused.

Check it worked

  • The Variant part lists every variant with its code; documents then ask for the Item Variant of this item.

If something looks wrong

  • "Item Variant Lines cannot be empty" Add the variants.
  • "Item Variant - Line ID: ... is duplicated with Line ID: ..." Two variants share a name; rename, or allow duplicates in Product Information Setting.
  • A variant name is greyed out. It is already used on a document.
