Units

Units makes the units of a property in one go. You describe the numbering as one or more ranges, for example floors 1 to 20 and flats 1 to 8, the screen lists every combination, and Save creates one Real Estate Unit per line.

What it is for

A tower of 20 floors with 8 flats each is 160 units. Typing them one by one on Real Estate Unit is slow; this screen makes them from a pattern.

How the pattern works: each Parameter line is one level of the number (floor, then flat). The screen counts each level from Range from to Range To in steps of Interval, and for every combination joins Prefix, the counter and Suffix of each level into the Unit No. The Name is the property code, a dash, then each parameter's name and counter. Floors 1 to 2 with prefix T- and flats 1 to 3 with prefix - give T-1-1, T-1-2, T-1-3, T-2-1, T-2-2, T-2-3.

The one rule people get wrong: the units made here carry only Unit No, Name and Property. Property Type and Unit, which a unit needs, are empty. Open each unit afterwards to complete it.

Every field in plain words

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put
TransactionThe number of this runRequired unless a number range gives it
PropertyThe property the units belong toRequired
NameThe property's nameRequired
ParameterThe name of the levelFloor, Flat. Required
PrefixText put before the counterT-
SuffixText put after the counter
Range from, Range ToThe first and last counter1 and 20
Interval (Months)The step between counters1. Despite the label, it is the step of the count, not months
Unit No, Name (Unit tab)The units the pattern makesFilled by the generate button on the Unit tab, and again on Save

How to configure it

  1. Create a run for the property and add the parameter lines, outermost level first.
  2. Press the generate button on the Unit tab and check the list.
  3. Save. One unit is created per line.

Save regenerates the list from the parameters, so edit the parameters, not the unit lines. A run's units can be removed with the delete-previous-units button, which asks for confirmation and deletes every unit this run created; it shows only to users allowed to delete on this screen.

Scenarios

  • A tower of 20 floors, 8 flats per floor. Two parameter lines: Floor 1 to 20, Flat 1 to 8. Save creates 160 units.
  • Plots numbered 2, 4, 6 on one side of a street. One line from 2 to 100 with Interval 2.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • "Property cannot be empty" or "Transaction No cannot be empty". Fill the field, or set up a number range for the screen.
  • "Same Property Unit already exists in Property ..." on Save. A unit with one of the generated numbers already exists, often because this run was saved before. Saving again tries to create every unit again. Delete the previous units first, or change the pattern.
  • A generated unit gets no price on a new agreement. Its Unit is empty, so no pricing profile line fits it, and it has no Unit Price lines. Complete the unit.
