How do I set up sales for a new company?
Create the company's Sales and Distribution Setting, its Order Journals and its Sales Origin lines, then the small lists the client uses. After that, sales orders can be taken.
Before you start
- Customers released in the company, with pricing group, payment term and tax zone (Release Customer In Legal Entity; see How do I set up receivables?).
- Items released in the company with a sales unit, and a price list (Item In Legal Entity, Pricing Profile).
- Customer invoice journals (Transaction Journal), if deliveries will invoice by themselves.
Steps
- Open Sales and Distribution Setting and create it for the company.
- Tick the line columns the sales team needs: Discount, Taxzone, Reservation, Calculate Cost, Margin.
- Pick the Delivery Process: issue from the sales order, or from a picking list.
- For invoicing at dispatch, tick Sales Delivery For Local and pick the Transaction Journal.
- Decide back-dating, quotation validity and versions. Save.
- Open Order Journal and create one journal per kind of order, for example Normal and Samples.
- Open Sales Origin and add one line per Copy From button the team will use: from quotation, from agreement, from another order, and the return source.
- Create the lists the client uses: Sale Category for services, Shipping Carrier, Sale Agreement Classification.
- Close and reopen the sales screens.
Check it worked
- A new Sales Order shows the columns you ticked.
- Copy From on its lines opens a window instead of "You don't have rights".
If something looks wrong
- "You don't have rights" on Copy From - the Sales Origin line for that source is missing.
- A ticked column does not show - reopen the screen; it reads the setting when it opens.
