How do I run depreciation at month end?

On Asset Depreciation pick a Till Date (the month end) and, if you want, a class, group, book or asset. Create works out every period due; Save posts it.

Steps

  1. Open Asset Depreciation, New. Posting Date: the month end. Transaction Journal. Till Date: the month end. Leave the criteria empty for every asset.
  2. Create. One line per asset, book and period due. Check the amounts.
  3. Save. The run is posted.

Check it worked

  • The board tile Depreciation charged shows the month.
  • Asset Transactions shows a depreciation line per asset and the lower book value.

What posts

Asset DepreciationSaveThe asset group's depreciation expense accountThe asset group's accumulated depreciation account

Both accounts come from the Fixed Assets posting profile for the group and the activity Depreciation. The run does not read the book's Post To General Ledger tick. Undoing it is Reverse on the toolbar, newest run first.

If something looks wrong

  • "There is no Asset Depriciation on Asset ...". Nothing is due: every asset is already depreciated to that date or at its floor.
  • "There are some Asset Adjustment in Park mode". Post or delete the parked adjustment.
  • "No Fiscal Period found in Calendar: ...". The fiscal calendar lacks the periods.
