How do I keep tax depreciation beside the accounting depreciation?

The setup allows it: a second Asset Book with its own Depreciation Profile, listed on each Asset Group, depreciated and valued on its own. But as delivered the Asset list on Asset Acquisition hides an asset once it has an acquisition in any book, so the same asset cannot be picked for its second book. Until that changes, a second book works only for assets acquired into that book alone.

Steps

  1. On Depreciation Profile make the tax profile, for example Reducing Balance, Yearly.
  2. On Asset Book make book TAX with that profile, Post To General Ledger off.
  3. On Asset Group add TAX to the Asset Book tab, and set Depreciation Percentage to the tax rate.
  4. On Asset Acquisition acquire the asset into TAX. The Asset list will not offer an asset already acquired in another book.

If something looks wrong

  • The asset is not offered for the second book. The Asset lookup on an Acquisition hides every asset already acquired in any book. This blocks the second book for that asset as delivered; report it to support.
  • The tax book's depreciation run made a voucher. Asset Depreciation does not read Post To General Ledger. Reverse the run if the voucher is not wanted.
