How do I make stock movements record the bin?

Whether a stock line must name a storage location is decided per item, by its Storage Structure. When the Storage Structure has a Location line with Required ticked, a stock movement line of that item without a storage location is refused on Save.

Steps

  1. Set up the bins of the warehouse on Storage Location Structure, so people know the codes.
  2. Open Storage Structure (Product Information › Item key Setting › Storage Structure) and make, or open, a structure with lines for Site, Warehouse and Location, each with Required ticked.
  3. Give the item that Storage Structure on the item in the company (Product Information).
  4. Tell the storemen to type the bin code on every stock line of the item.

Check it worked

  • Save a stock movement of the item with no Storage Location: it is refused with "Basic Data - Line ID : ... - Storage Location cannot be empty".
  • With a code, the movement saves, and the Warehouse Map shows the quantity in that bin.

If something looks wrong

  • A code that is not in the warehouse's structure was accepted. Stock movement lines take the storage location as typed. Nothing checks it against Storage Location Structure, and the map shows only codes that are on it. Only Picking List Registration offers a lookup of the warehouse's codes.
  • The bin is lost when I save. When the item's Storage Structure requires a site or a warehouse but not a location, the storage location is cleared from its stock lines on save. Tick Required on the Location line.
