How do I set up the bins of a warehouse?
On Storage Location Structure, pick the warehouse, add one Structure line per level (Aisle, Rack, Shelf, Bin) with its number range, and Save. Location Detail then lists one storage location per combination, such as W1-A01-R02-S03.
Before you start
- The warehouse exists in the company you are logged in to (Warehouse).
- You know the layout: how many aisles, racks per aisle, shelves per rack, bins per shelf, and how they are numbered on the labels.
Steps
- Open Storage Location Structure (Warehouse Management › Temp › Storage Location Structure) and press New.
- Pick the Warehouse and Create.
- A warehouse that already has a structure is refused with "Warehouse Cannot be Duplicate". Open the existing one instead.
- Type a Warehouse prefix if codes must tell warehouses apart, such as
W1-. Keep it short: a whole code may have at most 15 characters. - Type Capacity, what a typical bin holds, such as 100. Every new location starts with it.
- On the Structure tab, add one line per level. For example:
- Structures
Aisle, PrefixA, Start Value 1, End Value 3, Increment 1 - Structures
Rack, PrefixR, Start Value 1, End Value 2 - Structures
Shelf, PrefixS, Start Value 1, End Value 4
- Structures
- Save. Location Detail now holds 24 lines,
W1-A01-R01-S01toW1-A03-R02-S04. - Adjust single bins on Location Detail: a different Capacity, or On Hold with a Hold Reason. Save again.
Check it worked
- Location Detail shows one line per combination, with Aisle, Rack, Shelf and Bin filled.
- On a Picking List Registration line with this warehouse, the Storage Location lookup offers these codes.
- The Warehouse Map in Inventory draws the warehouse with its aisles and racks.
If something looks wrong
- "Structure must be Aisle, Rack, Shelf or Bin" - a Structures value starts with another letter. Only the first letter is read.
- "Structure is repeated" - two lines for the same level.
- "End Value cannot be less than Start Value" - the range is upside down.
- "The structure makes more than 20,000 locations in one warehouse" - narrow a range.
- "Location ... is longer than 15 characters; shorten the prefixes" - shorten the Warehouse prefix or a line prefix.
- The numbers have three digits. Numbers are padded to the digits of End Value, at least two. End Value 100 gives
001.
