How do I stop sales orders for customers over their credit limit?
Make a Credit Rule that ticks the sales order and picks Stop or a warning, then give the customer a Credit Limit (or Credit Days Overdue, or a Credit Area for a group-wide limit) and that Credit Rule. Released sales orders and sales order journals are checked on save.
Steps
- Open Credit Rule, New. The grid fills with the processes that can be checked. Tick Apply on for the sales order (and the sales order journal), pick the Action, and save.
- For a limit in one company: open the customer on Customer In Legal Entity, Invoicing and collection tab. Type Credit Limit, and/or tick Credit Days Overdue Validation with the number of days. Pick the Credit Rule. Save.
- For a limit across the group: make a Credit Area with a credit limit or overdue days line, and put the Credit Area and the Credit Rule on the customer in each company.
Check it worked
- A released sales order that takes the customer over the limit shows "Saving this Sales Order will exceed the customer's credit limit." and asks to continue (warning), or refuses (Stop).
If something looks wrong
- Customer invoices are not checked. By design today: only sales orders and sales order journals check credit.
- Credit Limit is greyed out on the customer. It has a Credit Area; the area's limit applies.
- A balance-check line cannot be saved on the credit area. Its Payment Method and Account columns are hidden as delivered.
