How do I give a customer a credit note?

Raise a Customer Invoice Memo: free text for price corrections and allowances (lines on the sales returns or discount account), or from the return order for goods taken back. Save posts it, and the credit is then used on a Collection or a Customer Settlement.

Steps

  1. Open Customer Invoice Memo, New.
  2. Pick the Transaction Journal, Posting Date and Customer. For a return, pick the return's Sale Order.
  3. Press Create and add or check the lines: account, quantity, price, tax group (the same as the invoice, so the tax is credited too).
  4. Save.
  5. Use the credit: clear it with the invoice on a Collection, or net it on a Customer Settlement.

If something looks wrong

  • "Digital Invoice is not applicable for Credit Memo". Use a memo journal that does not allow digital invoicing.
