How do I set up a sales pipeline?
On the Pipeline screen, type the stages in order with their Stage Type and Probablity, then add one Stage Rules line, with Allowed ticked, for every move a lead may make.
Steps
- Open Pipeline and press New. Type the Pipeline code, for example PROJ, and the Name, Project sales. Create.
- On Basic Data, add one line per stage in order. For example: Prospect (Open, 10), Qualified (Open, 25), Proposal (Open, 50), Negotiation (Open, 75), Won (Won, 100), Lost (Lost, 0). The middle column is Stage Type, the last Probablity.
- On Stage Rules, add the moves you allow. Prospect to Qualified, Qualified to Proposal, Proposal to Negotiation, Negotiation to Won, each with Allowed ticked. Add a line from each open stage to Lost, with Remarks Required ticked if a reason is wanted.
- Tick Based on Approval on any move that needs a manager. An approval must also be set up for Request Change Lead Stage.
- Decide on the restrictions. Restrict deals from moving backwards stops every backward move. Restrict deals from skipping stages stops skipping on the board only.
- Save. It is refused unless exactly one stage is Won and at most one is Lost.
Check it worked
- Open Lead, pick the new pipeline: Lead Stage offers its stages in your order.
- The lead list's board shows one column per stage.
If something looks wrong
- "Mark exactly one stage as the Won stage (Stage Type = Won) - it is what a won lead, and every sales figure, is counted from." Give one stage the type Won.
- Leads cannot be moved with Change Lead Stage: "No stage rule is configured". The Stage Rules line is missing, or its stage names do not match Basic Data exactly.
