How do I move a lead to another stage?
Open the lead and press Change Lead Stage on the toolbar: pick the New Stage, give Remarks, Save. Or drag the card to the next column on the lead board.
Steps
- Open the Lead and press Change Lead Stage. The dialog shows the Current Stage and the stage history.
- Pick the New Stage. A stage the pipeline does not allow from here is refused at once.
- Type Remarks. Required when the pipeline's rule says so. Only the first 50 characters are kept in the history.
- Save.
- If the move is Based on Approval, confirm: a Request Change Lead Stage goes to the approvers, and the message is "Your Change Lead Stage request has been submitted successfully". The lead moves when it is approved.
- Otherwise the lead moves now: "Lead Stage has been updated successfully".
On the board, dragging a card to another column moves the lead at once. The drag is not checked against the Stage Rules (Allowed, Remarks Required, Based on Approval); it is checked against the pipeline's two restrictions and the won lock. Where moves need approval, have users use Change Lead Stage.
Do not change the stage by editing the Lead Stage field and saving: the stage changes but no Stage History line is written and no rule is checked.
Check it worked
- The stage tag at the top and the Stage History's Last move show the new stage.
If something looks wrong
- "No stage rule is configured for ‘Qualified’ → ‘Proposal’. Add that transition on the Pipeline screen." Add the line on the Pipeline.
- "This stage transition is not permitted by system policy. ..." The rule exists with Allowed off.
- "Please enter Lead Stage Remarks." The rule requires remarks.
- "This lead is already at Proposal and cannot be moved back to Qualified. Stage movement is forward only on this pipeline." The pipeline forbids moving back.
- "Stages cannot be skipped on this pipeline. ..." On the board, move one column at a time.
- "This lead is won (Won) and is locked. It cannot be moved to Lost." See Mark a lead won or lost.
