Request Change Lead Stage
A request to move one lead to another stage, kept as a document so it can go through approval. It is raised from the lead, never typed from scratch.
What it is for
Some stage moves need a second pair of eyes: from Proposal to Won, or reopening a lost deal. The pipeline marks those moves Based on Approval. The lead then does not move when the salesperson saves the dialog; this request is created and sent to the approvers, and the lead moves only when the request is approved.
The rule people get wrong: only the latest request for a lead counts. Raising a new request for the same lead rejects and closes every earlier request for it that is not yet approved, and takes it off the approvers' lists.
Every field in plain words
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Request No | The request's number |
| Lead | The lead to be moved |
| Status | The stage asked for |
| Previous Status | The stage the lead was in when the request was raised |
| Notes | The remarks typed in the dialog |
| Lead Owner, Customer | Copied from the lead, for the approver |
| Payment Term, Payment Method, Revenue, Profit Percentage, Profit Amount | Copied from the lead at the moment of the request, so the approver sees what the deal was worth |
All of them are filled from the lead. The request has no lines.
What happens on approval
When the request is approved, the lead is moved to the requested stage through the same path as every other stage move: the pipeline's forward-only and won-lock rules still apply, a Stage History line is written with the request's remarks, and Won Date or Lost Date is set if the new stage is the Won or Lost stage. If the approval is rejected, the lead stays where it is.
If no approval is set up for this screen, the lead moves as soon as the request is saved.
What it is connected to
- Lead - raises the request and is moved by it.
- Pipeline - the Based on Approval tick that sends a move here.
If something looks wrong
- The approver approved, but the lead did not move. The move broke a pipeline rule at the moment of approval, for example the lead had meanwhile been won, or the pipeline forbids moving backwards. Check the lead's Stage History.
- An older request disappeared from the approvers' list. A newer request for the same lead replaced it.
