Customer Portal Setting
The customer portal lets customers see their account and place orders themselves. This screen holds the portal's choices for a company: which companies and items a customer may see, the page it opens on, how prices show, and where portal orders are created.
What it is for
One setting per company. The choices are read by the customer portal itself, which is outside this site's screens; this page describes what the screen holds and what its Save does.
The one rule people get wrong: Save copies most of the setting to every other company of the same client. Dashboard Period Type, Default Page, Portal Pricing Visibility, Allow All Companies, Order Create In, Hide Discount from Catalogue and the Company Access grid are written to each sister company's setting. Allow All Items, the Item Access grid and Customer Portal User stay with this company.
Every field in plain words
General
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Dashboard Period Type | The period the portal dashboard shows, picked from a list |
| Default Page | The page the portal opens on, picked from a list |
| Portal Pricing Visibility | How prices show on the portal, picked from a list |
| Order Create In | Where an order placed on the portal is created, picked from a list |
| Hide Discount from Catalogue | Do not show discounts in the portal catalogue |
| Customer Portal User | The user the portal works as, from the users |
Company Access
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Allow All Companies | Every company is open to portal customers. Ticked on a new setting. While ticked, the grid is hidden, and Save empties it |
| Company / Name / Default | The companies open to portal customers, and the one opened by default. Only one line can be Default |
Item Access
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Allow All Items | Every item is offered. Ticked on a new setting. While ticked, the grid is hidden, and Save empties it |
| Item No / Name | The items offered |
How to configure it
- Open the setting in the company where the portal is managed.
- Untick Allow All Companies and list the companies, if customers must see only some. Mark the default.
- Untick Allow All Items and list the items, if the catalogue is limited.
- Pick the page, period, pricing and order choices, and the portal user. Save: the sister companies take the shared choices.
What it is connected to
- Customers released in the company (Customer In Legal Entity), who receive portal access; see How do I give portal access?.
If something looks wrong
- A sister company's portal choices changed by themselves - someone saved the setting in another company of the client. The shared choices follow the last Save.
- Reverse Discount is not on the screen - it is configured for the screen but not placed, so it cannot be set here.
