Sales Order Closure

Sales Order Closure clears the order book. You list the sales order lines that are still open, pick the ones the customer will no longer take, and Save stops any further delivery against them.

What it is for

An order delivered in part stays open for the rest. When the customer will not take the rest, a closure document says so, line by line, with a note. On Save, each chosen sales order line gets Delivery Stop ticked, the same tick you could set on the order itself. From then on the picking list (Picking List) and the item issue (Item Issue To Sales Order) refuse that line.

The one rule people get wrong: closure stops delivery only. It does not cancel the order, change its quantity, release its reservation or stop invoicing what was already delivered.

How to configure it

Nothing to configure. Give users the right to the screen.

Scenarios

  • Month-end review of a distributor's order book. Base on Required Date, Till Date the month end, Open Days From 30 To 999. Pick the lines the customers have cancelled by phone and Save.
  • An export order shipped short. The lookup counts what was shipped on Outbound Shipment, so the shortfall shows as open. Close it.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • A closed line still shows on the open order lists - the lists count undelivered quantity; Delivery Stop stops delivery, it does not reduce the quantity.
  • "Basic Data - Line ID: ... block from Sales Order: ..." on the item issue - the line was closed here or stopped on the order. Untick Delivery Stop on the order line to deliver it after all.
  • The customer field is missing - the screen has a Customer criteria field in its configuration but does not place it, so you cannot narrow by customer.
