Delivery Return

A return against a document. A customer's goods come back against the delivery challan they left on; goods go back to a vendor against the receipt they came on. The lines are copied from that document, keep its batch and its price, and Save reverses the stock movement.

Needs first
The delivery challan or goods receipt; a journal with a return movement

What it is for

It returns exactly what was moved. The journal decides which way: a journal with the customer-return movement makes a return from a customer (the Customer field shows); a journal with the vendor-return movement makes a return to a vendor (the Vendor field shows).

The one rule people get wrong: a delivery return cannot be edited or deleted, and the delivery or receipt it returns cannot be reversed while the return stands. Reverse the return first.

How the document is built

  1. New, fill Posting Date, Transaction Journal, Site and Warehouse, and the Customer or Vendor, then Create.
  2. Press the copy button on the toolbar: the deliveries (or receipts) of that customer (or vendor) with something left to return are listed. Pick one or more, then pick the lines.
  3. Enter the quantity coming back on each line and Save.

What happens on Save

  • Stock moves back at the origin line's price, in the origin line's batch. The voucher posts with the accounts of the return movement.
  • The sales order's (or purchase order's) delivery and invoice status are updated.
  • When Auto Unpick Picking Registration on Delivery Return is ticked on the Inventory Control Setting, the picked lines of the returned delivery are released on their picking registration, so they can be picked again.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • "Basic Data - Item ... Movement Quantity: ... cannot exceed Issuance Quantity: ... in Issuance: ..." - more than is left to return on that delivery line.
  • "Basic Data - Item ... Movement Quantity: ... cannot exceed Receiving Quantity: ... in Receiving: ..." - the same, for a receipt.
  • "Basic Data - Item ... is not defined in Issuance: ..." / "... in Receiving: ..."
  • "Line ID: ... is duplicated with Line ID: ..." - the same origin line twice.
  • "There is no picked quanity" - on Reverse: the picked quantity of the delivery's picking lot no longer matches the return.
  • "Basic Data - Item (...) ... Stock not available ..." on a return to vendor - the receipt's batch is no longer in stock.
