Opportunity

An Opportunity is a deal being worked: the customer or prospect, how likely it is, what they need and in what quantity, and the follow-up. A Sales Quotation can copy its requirement lines and cannot quote more than the opportunity has left.

What it is for

It holds the deal until it is quoted, and gives the quotation its lines. A manufacturing order can name the opportunity it is made for.

The one rule people get wrong: an opportunity named on a manufacturing order cannot be deleted.

Requirement, Line Details, Contacts, Address

Requirement is free text. Line Details lists Requirements (an item), Unit, Quantity and Line Text, with a Details sub-grid per line for its dates, status and references. The Line Details tab shows only when the customer customizing setting in Company setup allows line details. Contacts: Email, Phone, Phone 1 and 2, Mobile, Mobile 1 and 2. Address: Address, Name of Address, Country Region, Country, State, City.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • "Opportunity ... is already referenced in the production order." - a manufacturing order names it.
  • Required Date before Opportunity Date is accepted - the check written for it never runs on this screen.
  • "... cannot exceed Balance Quantity ... in Item Request ..." on the quotation - the quotation asks for more than the opportunity line.
