What posts in Cash and bank
Two documents post: Bank Transactions and Bank Reconciliation. Each posts one journal entry per line, in the header's Transaction Journal and Posting Status. Nothing else in Cash & Bank or Budget posts.
| Document | When | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bank Transactions, line clearing a collection through a bridging account | Save | The payment method's Offset Account, or the header Debit Account, or the account typed on the line | The account the collection was posted to |
| Bank Transactions, line clearing a payment through a bridging account | Save | The account the payment was posted to | The payment method's Offset Account, or the header Credit Account, or the account typed on the line |
| Bank Transactions, line with no origin | Save | The line's Debit Account | The line's Credit Account |
| Bank Reconciliation, every line | Save | The line's Debit Account | The line's Credit Account |
A Bank Transactions line that clears a payment or collection without a bridging account (allowed by Allow Non-Bridge Bank Transaction) posts nothing; it only marks the line cleared.
Each entry carries the Posting Date, the Transaction Journal, its Journal and Journal Indicator, the Posting Status, the Reference no as reference, the Notes as header text, the currency and exchange rate of the header, the line's dimensions, and the Line Text on both sides. The fiscal year and period come from the Posting Date.
Every one of these entries is checked against the General Ledger Account Budget like any journal entry.
Where the accounts come from
- Offset Account and the clearing account: the Payment Method of Payables or Receivables, on its account line with Bridging Posting. See Payment Method in Payables and Receivables.
- Header Debit Account and Credit Account (Offset Account): typed on the Bank Transactions header before Create.
- Line accounts: typed on the line, from the accounts released to the company.
Undoing a posting
- Bank Transactions: Reverse on the toolbar, once Posted. Each line's journal entry is reversed on the Reverse Date. The payment or collection line keeps its Cleared mark. While Park, Edit or Delete removes the entries and the Cleared mark.
- Bank Reconciliation: no Reverse. While Park, Edit or Delete removes the entries. Once Posted, post a reconciliation line in the opposite direction.
Documents that never post
- Bank Deposit - a deposit slip record, even when Posted.
- Letter of Guarantee - shows a journal, a posting status and an Accounting tab, but Save posts nothing.
- Request for Letter of Guarantee and Letter of Credit - registers.
- General Ledger Account Budget, Sales Budget, Purchase Budget - budgets act through checks and lists, never through entries.
