Inventory Reservation

Holds stock for a customer's order. For a sales order, Save finds available stock (by site, warehouse, batch) and reserves it on the order's lines; other documents then cannot issue that stock, and the delivery challan for the order releases it as it ships.

What it is for

It protects a promise. Stock is reserved only from open stock, in sites (and warehouses) that have Use in Reservation ticked, and not from batches that have expired unless the item allows issuing expired stock.

The one rule people get wrong: only a reservation for a sales order holds stock. A general reservation (or one for any other purpose) is recorded with its lines, but no stock check or issue reads it. To keep stock away from everyone else without an order, move it to a separate warehouse instead.

What happens on Save

For a sales order, available stock is reserved line by line, split across batches when needed, and written onto the sales order line as its reservation. If not enough is available: "Stock not available of Item ...".

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • "Line ID: ... - Reservation Quantity cannot be 0", "... Date From cannot be Empty", "... Date To cannot be Empty"
  • "No Line found in Sales order of Item ..." - the line is not on the referenced order.
  • "Line ID : ... already reserve quantity of this item" - the order line is already reserved in full.
  • "Stock not available of Item ..." - not enough open, reservable stock.
  • "Basic Data - Line ID: ... - Reservation Quantity: ... cannot exceed Balance Quantity: ... of Item: ... in Request : ..."
